AIs that write thesis about themselves 🎓, M2 chip powering Apple's MR headset ⚡️, Meta launching a new one 🥳, and more!
Hi again! Welcome back to Augmented Rarity 💚
Today I want to get back a to more extended format around AI but specially XR since this week is full of updates! Let’s begin 👽
Extended Reality
In the race for a revolutionary lightweight Mixed Reality headset, we keep hearing from Apple and Meta weekly, and this was no exception:
Is not likely that Apple will be launching its first MR headset in 2022, but rather next year. Let’s not be so harsh on them since people are speculating that it will be powered the M2 chip 💁🏻♀️ If that’s true, then we have a winner…
…or not, since Meta will be launching Project Cambria this year. I know, I know, I also lost track on how many headsets they are currently working on, this is the one that it’s meant to replace your work laptop 💼
Among Meta's prototypes, Mirror Lake is perhaps the closest to what we envision for a lightweight MR headset, but Zuck says such a device won't be available for many years 🥹
As they continue to work on their consumer-friendly headset, Mojo vision's CEO tested their MR contact lenses prototype on himself! 👀 MR contact lenses, yay or nay? Let me know in the comments.
And yes, I’m also wondering why Apple is not part of the Metaverse Standards Forum 👋
Artificial Intelligence
While we’ve all been talking a lot about DALL·E 2 lately (hence my latest video), there are many other awesome AIs hitting the market right now, too! Let's highlight a couple of them:
If art might be compromised, writing too. GPT-3 was prompted to write a thesis about itself, and in about 2h it was ready 😨
The US police are now able to predict crime with 90% accuracy by analysing patterns based on area and time, and anticipating it one week before it occurs 👮
We keep talking about AIs that have no physical body, yet the world is already working with AIs that read your body language to increase productivity at warehouses.
And for the sake of next day delivery, Amazon released 2 new warehouse robots last week:
Dramaverse
Yes, the section is called dramaverse because this week I’ve been vlogging my way back into electronics and it has been a mess 🫠
But in so little time I managed to learn so much, so I’m excited for this new format of content. Watch part one of this process in this video I’ve just uploaded 👇
Thanks for reading, if you liked this week's selection, please like and share 💚
As always, see you next Sunday!
Best,
Martina
