Hola! 💚 Thanks for coming back to Augmented Rarity 👽
Let’s get started with this week’s curation!
Extended Reality
The days of chunky VR headsets are numbered 🤿
🔗 NVIDIA is Researching Ultra-Thin Displays for Ultra-Slim Holographic VR Glasses
With the help of Stanford 🎓, NVIDIA created a headset that is 0.01 inches thick (.25 mm)! However, they lack other necessary components for a good VR experience, so this won't hit the average consumer just yet.
What motivates me about this is that they claim this holographic vision can prevent the eyesight from becoming compromised by so much time spent in front of the screen 🥸
🔗 Google bought a MicroLED display company that could help make AR headsets better and cheaper
As for smaller displays, Google is also acquiring more startups to bring them to market! It appears that Raxium, the company that Google acquired, was also on Meta and Snap's radar 👀. Let's see how this plays out 😎
Metaverse
A solution to meta catfishers? 🎣
🔗 Flirt in the Metaverse and Hook Up in the Real World With ‘Flirtual’ Dating App
With the premise that people were dating in VR, but there was no VR dating site, Flirtual was created as a dating app 😘
This is not bad at all, because the app only has people who are interested in technology and know how to use it, so that's already a great filter! But… the slogan is quite creepy, "Meet hot singles in your area virtual reality" 🏩
Starbucks getting in the crypto space ☕️
🔗 Starbucks plans a ‘global digital community’ around coffee with an NFT loyalty program
Summary: Another company getting into crypto… 🤷🏻♀️
As for me, I am tired of NFT communities and of crypto itself. My perspective on the industry began to change not so long ago, when I realized that for now, its members are mostly in it for the money, and not for the social and technological changes 😒. There are many people there for the good of what blockchain can do for our society, but let's be honest, 90% of the industry is a bunch of bros. In fact, this is one of the main reasons I quit my job in crypto 🙃
Robots
Just a random check on how the humanoid race is going 👀
🔗 A visit to the human factory 🏭
The Metaverse and robots seem like the Internet when it was first invented… and then we became addicted to computers and smartphones 📱 because they simplify our lives, making us more ignorant each day 😅
Would humanoids be more "human" than some humans if they are trained to think autonomously? 🧐
The mother of shitty robots launched her online store! 🤖
🔗 Simone Giertz’s online store sells cool inventions ‘you didn’t know you didn’t want’
From realistic robots to useless ones!
Simone was my inspiration back at my masters when we were getting started with Arduino and I just felt extremely overwhelmed because I knew nothing about electronics and the fact that guys had no trouble with it made me feel even more insecure (watch this for more background on how it feels). But she and her shitty robots funny videos made me realize I could build anything 👷♀️
Leaving here another cool reference with also a very unnecessary shop 🤫
And this is it for today!
Will be back next week with a fresh curation of what’s cooking in the (future) tech industry 🚀
See you again next Sunday 💜

I agree 100% on the crypto and nft. So tiring. I was first excited about creators and artists having more ownership and control, but seeing how the nft community is mostly people using autogenerators making not impressive pieces, it gets boring and so uninteresting!!
