Meta losing billions 📉, Google to be more inclusive 📚, Growing plants in lunar soil 🌕, and more!
Yay, you made it again! 💚
This 5th week of Augmented Rarity is full of stories 👽 To make sure I include them all, I changed the format this time 👇
Extended Reality 🥽
Beginnings are hard, even for tech giants. Meta’s Reality Labs has generated $6.2 billion in losses in the last two quarters 💸
Meanwhile, we’ve all seen the video of Meta’s new mixed reality headset (project Cambria) 🕶. The blurred prototype is still far from those light portable glasses we all expect 😅
Getting a bit more present in VR because legs finally arrived to Spatial🕺. But unless you are tracking your legs too, this won’t make such a big difference just yet 🙃
Machine Learning 🤖
Google is releasing a more inclusive, 10 skin tone palette, to be more representative of society while training their AI systems 📚💪 . A good start, remember when its algorithm confused people with gorillas? 😅
Robots to replace astronauts 🧑🏻🚀. Maybe this way Elon’s plan to get a human to Mars in 5-10 years will make sense if he sends a humanoid instead 🚀. Btw watch 🍿 this podcast episode if you want an update on Elon’s plans.
Metaverse 🌐
While crypto is as down as in 2020, Emirates to accept BTC payments ✈️ and of course they are also releasing an NFT collection…
Meta will merge Horizon Venues and Horizon Worlds to bring the Metaverse closer to us thanks to portals 🚪
Miscellaneous 👀
Growing plants in Moon’s soil 🥦. Yes the emoji is a broccoli because it was one of the crops tested! 💚
Elon put his Twitter acquisition on hold 😅 because of large amount of fake accounts. What's new about that?
From trash to 3d printed stuff ♻️. One of the main concerns when buying a 3D printer is creating more waste, so we look forward to this development 🙏
Hope you liked this week’s selection! 💜
Let's have a discussion on these topics, so if you are up, please leave a comment (and give it a like so I know you enjoyed it!) ✨
As always, see you next Sunday!
Best,
Martina
