Pantone's 2023 color 🧞‍♀️, no killer robots in SF 🤖, AI apps to try ⚡️, and much more!

Welcome to another week of AI and XR news! 👽

For some reason my curation feels quite dystopian most of the times, so let’s try to make a more positive one. Good tech vibes only and no Elon Musk or Zuckerberg news today 👋 Ok only 1 🥀

🤖 Artificial Intelligence

• No killer robots in SF 🙏. Local police won’t be allowed to kill criminal suspects with tele-operated robots, because apparently killing people with robots is not a good idea. Who knew?!

• The end of Google? This Chrome extension integrates ChatGPT into your Google searches 🔎, giving you a summary of everything you ask. It is ideal but its training data only goes up until 2021, so it is unable to provide up-to-date information on current events. Took me 1 min to install, so I recommend trying it. There’s also another one that’s not only in google but everywhere in the browser but I haven’t downloaded it yet.

• AI to backend? Yes please, with Qatalog 2.0 you can create a complete backend for a marketplace by simply entering the term "marketplace”. It includes all the necessary fields and information related to sellers, users, and products. Very interestit, haven’t tried it yet tho.

• Last week I told you I’d be trying avatarai.me or profilepicture.ai… But I got lazy and downloaded Lensa instead since I could do it from my phone. And I’m not the only lazy one here, Lensa generates over $1 million in revenue per day and one of the main reasons is that is so easy to get started 😳. Unfortunately, I’m quite disappointed with Lensa's results so I’ll be testing avatarai and profilepic anyway 🤳

• And as promised, only 1 Elon update. Neuralink is being investigated for potential animal welfare violations 🧪 after 1,500 animals died during testing as they are not following guidelines 🥀.

🥽 Extended Reality

• Epic Games has released RealityScan 🎮, a free app that converts photos of real-world objects into 3D models. It is available for iOS and the Android version is coming in 2023. I can’t say I recommend this yet because I’ve only tested it quickly and got disappointing results but I’ll give it a try again.

• We said no dystopias today, and Pantone clearly echoed this sentiment by declaring Viva Magenta as the color of 2023 🧞‍♀️ to symbolize hope for the future as it symbolises prosperity as the world emerges from the dark days of the pandemic. How does this fit in the XR section? Well, they are using #magentaverse for the marketing campaign 🙃

  

• Apple's AR/VR headset delayed again 🕣 - may not launch until second half of 2023 due to unspecified "software-related issues.
